This body of work was made during my one month residency at Megalo Studio in 2022.
I have always expressed my views and frustrations about things through my art, usually in the form of satire and appropriation, I resonate with the following passage from Art + Religion in the 21st Century, "What American art critic and philosopher Arthur Dante calls the 'philosophical disenfranchisement of art', which consigns art to mere entertainment, can in reality open a fresh space for dialogue, in which the stakes seem deceptively lower, and genuine dialogue can flow more easily."
Due to my love of music and the art of record covers, the works are appropriated from famous Western record covers ranging from the 60s to the last decade. Issues I allude to include the invasion of Ukraine, the overturning of Roe v Wade and the ongoing climate crisis. These works are also an homage to the remarkable art and history of record covers and their place in pop culture, which I believe is slowly going overlooked in the age of digital streaming.
