The Annunciation
A work from my suite of etchings made during my final year at the National Art School in 2021. All of which are appropriated from the Renaissance paintings of Carlo Crivelli.
This work is a reflection on the daily 11am COVID-19 press conference during lockdown in NSW and it’s role as a ritual in many people’s lives. Whether it be case numbers or new restrictions, Gladys’ news changed your life for the foreseeable future. I wanted to contrast the daily covid updates with the news Gabriel brought to Mary. While the news Gladys delivered probably wasn’t as important as who was carrying the Messiah, it did feel almost as significant - at least during the height of the lockdown
Aquatint etching on Hahnemühle, 56 x 36cm (diptych). Edition of 4. Edition 1/4 is framed.
